Homecare Data Capture in Rx-info

Two Improvements to Homecare Data Capture
#1 Following additional analysis into the handling of homecare prescriptions in the JAC (CareFlow) system we have identified a number of Trusts using a homecare ‘virtual location’ to issue homecare medicines. We have adjusted the data in order to capture these issues as homecare spend.
This improvement has resulted in some hospitals reporting increased spend and issues as homecare (exc. VAT) and decreased spend and issues through VAT applicable transactions. The total financial sum across all hospital sites has decreased based on the VAT saving, but medicines volumes remain the same.
We now identify homecare prescription issuing through the following ways:
- Annotation in the drug descriptor field i.e. ‘HC’ in the drug name or unit of issue – Imatinib 400mg tablets (HC)
- Issuing to a homecare cost centre – ‘Gastroenterology Homecare’
- Use of a homecare ‘location’ in JAC (CareFlow)
If you use a method of identifying homecare other than the above, please contact us to discuss.
#2 We have also had further success extracting and reporting data from Epic hospital sites and now report on homecare from Guy’s and St Thomas’ (including Royal Brompton) and King’s College London hospitals. This includes previously unsubmitted data which has increased the total value reported as homecare. As other Epic sites use the standardised data extraction process, we anticipate further improvements and increases in homecare values reported.
We encourage all Trusts using the Epic system, or considering using it, to contact Rx-info so we can support the introduction of any updates and ensure that the reporting of spend data remains as accurate as possible.
