SUPPORTING THE NHS
Posted in News
The data that you load to the Rx-info system has directly fed into the NHS stock management of Covid-19 related medicines, ensuring that stock is getting to where it is needed. In recent weeks we have had between 90% to 100% of trusts loading their data daily – thank you for this as up to date data make a big difference.
We are working with your regional procurement leads and centrally with NHSE/I to predict future medicines needs and provide early warning of stock level decreases.
UK visibility
We have welcomed colleagues from Northern Ireland and Scotland to our systems over the last month ensuring that the UK has daily visibility of medicines use and stock. We believe that we are the only European nation to be able to do this. We know that this ability counts in the continuing challenges presented by Covid-19.
Daily data
As previously mentioned, we are able to load stock data on a daily basis and currently we present this data to you as a stock view in the Exend system.
Over the first 3 weeks of the pandemic we accelerated development to also load daily issues data. This was originally planned for release in late June 2020, but developers Dan, Dave, Mike and Miles excelled themselves to bring this forward to help overcome challenges raised by the pandemic.
The national advantage of doing this is that we now know daily stock and daily usage (only one day in arrears) so can accurately predict stock positions despite the significant changes in clinical use of medicines.
Daily reporting in Refine
With the daily loading of issues data, we can now show daily reporting in Refine for Trusts with a Wellsky (JAC) or EMIS (Ascribe) system. Take a look at these antimicrobial reports which show daily and weekly trends in issues. All this with only a 24-hour delay to report:
Daily use of antimicrobials used in April and May within Trust (Opens in Refine)
Weekly use of antimicrobials within Trust (Opens in Refine)
