Improving consistency with ‘Unlicensed’ flag removal
Posted in News
Rx-Info’s February 2016 newsletter introduced filters linked to ‘dm+d availability’. This made it possible to identify all dm+d mapped items that are not licensed in the UK and have a clear understanding of the total spend by category:
- Imported
- Special order
- Extemp
The ‘unlicensed’ flag in Define has been used to identify products where the Trust’s drug description clearly indicates that it is an unlicensed medicine. However, a comparison of spend using this flag against dm+d filters, demonstrates that the ‘unlicensed’ flag is consistently and significantly under reporting the costs of imported and special order products.
We intend to remove the ‘unlicensed’ flag option from the drug filters in the next half year, as the dm+d availability filters provide more accurate figures between Trusts. Trusts will still be able to create reports and track spend on items not mapped to dm+d in Refine.
While drugs not yet included on dm+d will not be seen on the reports, the editorial team at Rx-info is working closely with the dm+d team to increase inclusion of ‘Specials’ and ‘Imported’ products.
