🎉Happy 20th Birthday to us!🎂

Rx-info is celebrating its 20th birthday this December.
So we have survived 7 Prime Ministers (at last count), 4 American Presidents, departure from Europe (checked the map), 23 NHS restructures and a pandemic since 2003 (N.B. one of these may be made up).
For those of you old enough to recall –Â this was 2003
- “Where is the Love?” by the Black Eyed Peas was the biggest selling single (streaming was not available apart from maybe Napster)Â
- December music included the No 1: “Leave Right Now” by Will Young and also Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End) by The Darkness (and YouTube didn’t appear until 2 years later)
- Tony Blair was Prime Minister
- The use of hand-held mobile phones while driving was made illegal in the United Kingdom
- Space Shuttle Colombia broke up on re-entry
- U.S. and Britain launch war against Iraq
- Arsenal played Southampton in the FA cup winning 1-0 and went on to an undefeated season
- England won the Rugby World Cup and Worcester the league Cup (that JW drop goal)
- Olivia Rodrigo and Jude Bellingham were born
- Elf, Love Actually, Kill Bill, Finding Nemo and School of Rock were released.
As we love our medicines data we thought a few comparative facts would be of interest:
- Total 2003 NHS spend (NIC) on medicines was £7.51 billion compare this to the £17.8 billion spent in 2022
- Current 12 months spend on hospital medicines was £9.9 billion (to end Nov 2023)
New medicines licensed in 2003:
adalimumab | bortezomib | gefitinib | omalizumab |
agalsidase beta | daptomycin | icodextrin | palonosetron |
alefacept | efalizumab | laronidase | pegvisomant |
alfuzosin | eletriptan | memantine | rosuvastatin |
aprepitant | emtricitabine | mequinol/tretinoin | tadalafil |
atazanavir | enfuvirtide | miglustat | tositumomab |
atomoxetine | eplerenone | nitazoxanide | Â vardenafil |
And finally of note is that narcissism began circa 2010 evidenced by the fact that none of the Rx-info team have any selfies from this time 2003 (imagine!), but the team have been kind enough to share the following 20 year younger versions of themselves from actual photos!
